Friendsgiving is a blend of friend and Thanksgiving, and it refers to a large meal eaten with friends either on or near Thanksgiving. People are serious about their Friendsgiving celebrations and we are too! There are how-tos, menus, and rules for Friendsgiving - online and offline.
ABOUT THIS EVENT
A note from Kathy:
Throughout the pandemic, I’ve been running group events that give people a chance to find connection and community in difficult times and that re-create the feel of real-world events. I’ve worked hard on the design and facilitation of these to make them meaningful for everyone – whether you love stuff like this, or you sometimes find events like this a little awkward.
The experience will be somewhere between a cocktail party and a really great conference. You’ll be able to find people who share your interests, chat in small groups, and move fluidly between conversations.
HERE ARE SOME THINGS TO KNOW
> The event will take place Tuesday, November 10th, starting promptly at 11:30 AM eastern time, and ending at 1:00.
> It is an event with a beginning, middle, and end. If you are coming, we ask that you be on time, ready to start at eleven-thirty. We’ll open the doors at 11:20 or so, so you can check your tech, etc. We can’t guarantee you’ll be let in if you show up late.
> Parts of the event will be structured and facilitated, parts will be more free-form.
> You will be asked to identify the menu item you will bring to share: appetizer, soup/salad, bread, side dish, main entree, dessert. Earn bonus points if you have an online recipe or a digital copy of your grandmother's recipe.
> The party itself will last about 60 minutes, followed by a 20 minute group conversation. We expect to be done by around 1:30 (though you can stick around after if you like).
> This is a participatory, cameras-on event. You’ll spend most of your time in small Zoom video-chat groups, talking with other people who share your interests. Come ready to participate!
> There are some tech requirements: We suggest that you log on using a computer, not a tablet or phone. Whatever platform you are using, you will need to be on the very latest version of Zoom. We’ll be relying heavily on some features that are *only* available in the latest release.
This event is free, but you need to register in advance, and space is limited.
Hope to see you there!
IT'S MY JOB to think about how to structure social events in ways that help people connect.
I’m a professional facilitator of meetings and conferences, where I try to maximize real human connection. As a teacher, coach, and consultant, I help people learn to communicate better about difficult and important topics. As the Covid-19 pandemic took over our lives, I started doing lots of work online, mostly serious events about hope and despair during the pandemic, and how to work from home while homing from work.
💻 On a computer with a working microphone (built-in or external), click the link in your email to join at 11:15 A.M. on Tuesday.
🎯 When you join, you will be in the main discussion room for a brief overview of the event and what to expect.
We’re a group of local WordPress developers, designers, and publishers who get together to share our knowledge, our experience, and to meet other WordPress users in the area. This WordPress Meetup is open to all who love WordPress — join us!
