There's a new hackerspace in Roswell called Counterpoint Hackerspace. They've just moved in to their new space as of October 2016. Their website doesn't have a lot of info as of yet. From their Meetup Page:

We are Counterpoint. Counterpoint is a hackerspace for technical-creative projects, doocratically run by our members. We are a non-profit educational institution intended for public benefit. Come and visit our space located in Roswell, Georgia. We teach, we learn, we share.

Want to learn how to code? We'll teach you! This new workshop series will focus on teaching the basics of programming using JavaScript! This recurring class is aimed towards beginners - no prior experience is required. While we will be using JavaScript to learn, we will cover programming topics that can be applied to any language. This class is project focused - we will be learning by building a fully functioning project from start to finish. If you don't have access to a computer, don't worry! We have several GNU+Linux workstations you can use for the class. This class will be taught using 100% free and open source tools that are available on any platform. Not only will we learn JavaScript, but we will also cover programming patterns, automated testing, and version control systems for working with others.

Every other week, we hold a general meeting for newcomers to come and learn about what we are doing at the space. These meetings also serve the purpose of making announcements, giving the financial report, reaching member consensus on any proposals, and general discussion.

A couple frequent attendees wanted to learn how they can get more into this field without spending a bunch of money on SANs certs. We will use real malware from thezoo and pcaps from MTA. Goal is to get familiar with various tools and contribute IOC to MISP for threat intel. This will more than likely become a reoccurring class.

There is no official presentation since my current employer requires a review for public presentations. Though below will be the list of tools use to strengthen your skills.

    Reverse Engineering.
Remnux (Sans Ubuntu distro that comes with a bunch of reverse engineering tools)
    Cuckoo Sandbox (automated malware analysis)

    Network Forensics.
SIFT ( SANs Ubuntu distro for Forensics)
    Bro (IDS and asset discovery)
Suricata (IDS signature system because SNORT sucks and can DIAF)

    Threat Intelligence
MISP (community IoC uploader 4da CERT!)
    Yara (IoC rule writer)

"It's dangerous to go alone, take this..." is the anthem of our monthly counter-surveillance class. Come and learn about how to protect yourself both online and in the flesh. These meetings start by defining a threat model, followed by hands on demonstration of a specific tool for protecting yourself and open discussion.
